TLCD’s interior designers are experienced in furniture selection for small to large projects across our studios. The new transitional classroom building at Manzanitas Elementary School was a perfect opportunity to take our client to the One Workplace showroom and engage in a hands-on approach to furniture selection. Seeing, feeling, and testing furniture products allows district staff and teachers to make selections with confidence! Read more on our blog: https://lnkd.in/gt7pXPaB

The groundbreaking ceremony held at Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa on April 10th marks the beginning of construction on a striking new 2-story classroom building. The 26,000 square foot building will replace 17 aging relocatable classrooms at the High School and represents a new beginning and a source of inspiration for the students and staff. It features a two-story high lobby, 15 general education classrooms and 2 science laboratories. The building will also feature all-gender restrooms, which are both safe and inclusive. This is the most recent of many TLCD designed additions to the school, which together have helped evolve and enliven the original design of the school. The construction manager is Greystone West. Wright Contracting, which constructed the original school in 1958, is the general contractor. The event was attended by students, district officials and the public. Yesterday’s Wine Wednesday took us to the Luther Burbank Center in Santa Rosa where we met artist Maria de Los Angeles for a tour of her murals and art displayed at LBC and the adjacent Sutter Hospital. Maria grew up in the Roseland neighborhood of Santa Rosa and is a SRJC alumni. She is an acclaimed artist known for her use of vivid colors, flowers and symbolism, which are just stunning seen in person. Maria is on Instagram at @delosangelesart and she has a Scholarship Fund in her name to support students studying art at SRJC. What an inspiration for us to continue to integrate art into public spaces! https://lnkd.in/gxcftX6e

In honor of Black History Month, TLCD would like to spotlight the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC. Tyree Vantrease, one of our architects at TLCD, had the opportunity to visit the museum in December and came away deeply moved by the experience. Established by an Act of Congress in 2003 following decades of advocacy, the museum opened to the public in 2016 after another lengthy period of planning and fundraising. The museum is truly astounding from its form based on the three-tiered crowns used in Yoruban Art from West Africa, to its façade inspired by ironwork crafted by enslaved African Americans (and the Washington Monument), to the museum’s exhibits starting below grade emphasizing the brutality of the Atlantic Slave trade and ending above grade in natural light filled exhibits of African American cultural achievements. It is a one of a kind experience intellectually, historically, emotionally, and architecturally. You can explore more online at: https://nmaahc.si.edu/
